“ I have studied a lot and traveled a lot. I’ve had many jobs and have been many things to many people. While my experiences, both ups and downs, have enriched my life it has been a regular Yoga practice and the constitutional insights of Ayurveda that have given me the best understanding of myself and how I function. The traditional wisdom of both these ancient disciplines is fascinating and as entirely relevant today as 1,500 years ago.
Entirely adaptable to modern living Yoga and Ayurveda make me healthier and happier and have been my staunchest allies through the challenges life has thrown me.
So whether I’m hiking in the Bosnian mountains, recharging my cells on the West Coast of Ireland or hanging out of a bus with my camera in the Western Ghats Yoga and Ayurveda are always with me. ”
Hi there, I’m Ann Johnston,
Welcome to my online balance your life through Yoga and Ayurveda. I have have been teaching Yoga since 2004, originally in Limerick, Ireland, and since 2012 mostly in France but also the UK, Dubai and India. There is a lot of Yoga out there, so what is my style?
I have been really lucky to have met wonderful and inspiring teachers in the Sri T. Krishnamacharya and T.K.V.Desikachar tradition and I am faithful to this approach. Therefore adapting practice respecting age, culture, health and individual needs is central to my teaching. My first in teacher was the wonderful Hanne Gillespie in Dublin, I teacher trained with Ranju and Dave of Sadhana Mala and spent six rich years with Peter Hersnack.
I have also trained and practice as an Ayurvedic practitioner starting with the brilliant Atreya Smith in 2003 and since then with Kerala Ayurveda Academy near Kochi and in the US and School of Ayurveda in Kannur. My home from home in Kerala is PKM Ayurvedic Hospital in Taliparamba where I have had amazing experiences and priceless learning with Jaleel Gurukkal and his family.
my approach
Through Yoga
I aim to guide students towards an experience of a quieter, embodied mind, while teaching the principles and key practices found in the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali. Yoga strenghtnes and frees our body but is not a body culture: Our bodies and our breath are our vehicles of practice, a journey to the heart of what it is to be alive, what animates us. This connection to the intelligent life within us brings with it a profound sense of well being, comfort and inspiration.
Through Ayurveda
My objective is to lead you towards a better understanding of your own constitution. You get to discover the lifestyle, eating patterns, foods and exercise that suit you. This means that you will have comfortabe digestion and elimination, will sleep well, enjoy energy and enthusiasm and be resistant to stress.
This sounds a tall order but it is possible while still enjoying the pleasures of life.
